Privacy Policy
Last updated 1 October 2026
This policy explains what VocabHang, operated by Gnopt LLC, a California limited liability company, collects about you, why, and what you can do about it. We have tried to keep it short and literal.
What we collect
- Account: your email address, the name you give us, your native and target languages, and preferences such as tutor tone.
- Conversations:a text transcript of what you and the tutor say in each session, the session's time and length, and the tutor's notes about which words you used, recognised, or asked about. This is the learning record the product is built on.
- Audio: in a spoken session your voice is streamed to a speech recognition provider and turned into text in real time. We do not record or store your audio.
- Usage and diagnostics:which pages you use, timing of each turn, errors, and the estimated cost of your sessions. For early-release diagnostics we also record how the app's screens behave during a session (a “session replay”) with your typed text and all conversation words masked out.
How we use it
To run the tutor (it needs the transcript to answer you), to estimate and track your vocabulary, to sign you in, to fix problems, and to understand in aggregate how the product is used. We do not sell your data and do not use it for advertising.
Who processes it for us
VocabHang runs on services that handle your data under contract with us: Supabase (database and sign-in), Hetzner and Cloudflare (hosting and network), LiveKit (real-time audio transport), Deepgram (speech recognition), ElevenLabs (the tutor's voice), Anthropic (the language model behind the tutor), PostHog (usage analytics and session replay), Sentry (error reporting), and Forward Email (sign-in emails). If you sign in with Google, Google tells us your email address, name and profile picture and nothing else; we never see your Google password. Your transcript text is sent to the language model to generate each reply; your audio is sent to the speech providers to transcribe and to speak. These providers are located in the United States and the European Union.
How long we keep it
Your account, transcripts and learning record are kept while your account exists, so your progress is there when you return. Diagnostic data is kept for a shorter period (session replays and error reports are typically deleted within 30–90 days). When you ask us to delete your account we delete your account data within 30 days, except where we must keep something to meet a legal obligation.
Cookies
We use a cookie to keep you signed in and a first-party analytics cookie. We do not use advertising cookies.
Your rights
You can see your progress and history in the app. You can ask us for a copy of your data, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete your account. Use the contact form, and include the email address on your account so we can verify it is you. Depending on where you live you may have additional rights, including the right to complain to a data protection authority.
Children
VocabHang is not for children under 16. If you believe a child has created an account, email us and we will remove it.
Changes and contact
We will announce material changes by email or in the app. Questions: contact us; the address is [email protected]. Governing law: the State of California, United States.
